MEXRRISSEY, a Morrissey cover band, drop their first album. If you rather suspect they are one of those gimmicks, the album will reveal their seriously-crafted, real sound and the surprisingly great compatibility between Morrissey's hits and a mariachi style is, resulting in an astonishing, emotive tearjerker. Leading the band is Camilo Lara, a high-profile producer in Latin-pop who is known for his south-American electro such as digital cumbia under the popular Mexican Institute of Sound moniker. It is worth noting that Morrissey's romantic, beautiful, nostalgically-sentimental melodies are re-interpreted with the band's sweet, open, yet melancholic instrumentation, which exudes different charm to the originals. There are also exhilarating moments like oldies tunes, so considering the album to be a good pop listen would offer you a better understanding. It's also noteworthy that members of Calexico, one of Arizona's best post rock lone wolves, join the album.
