After a four-year production hiatus, CALYX & TEEBEE, formed in 2004 by two veterans who have been active since the late '90s, unleash a new fierce piece whose raging big tunes continuously get loose, emanating the duo's momentum and zest after their success at gigs in the US. CALYX's vocal, which played a supporting part to spice up the last album, is brought to the fore as a main role here, and he sings with great panache on the first two tracks-the cyber "Nothing Left" employs distortion-heavy heaving bassline and "Long Gone" generates melancholy groove through the combination of guitar and double bass. On the following tunes, he demonstrates his pensive vocal tinged with sorrow at pivotal points, bringing its mildness into the edgy neurofunk. There are also neurofunk mutants. The jangle beat of "Ghetto" is joined by Doctor's ragga-style MC while "Big Tune Again" is a jumpup track with brutal heavy sub. The spacey, dark drone in "Pathfinder" brings ASC to mind. These tracks show the duo's creative prowess that makes them stand out from the Ram roster.
