Intoxicate vol. 174 features the movie “A Complete Unknown,” Quincy Jones, Andrea Battistoni and Nik Bärtsch

February 20th 2025 is the street date of Intoxicate vol. 174 “Knockin’ on Silence”.

The cover photo is taken from the film A Complete Unknown (released in Japan on February 28th), which is based on the biographic story of Bob Dylan. Timothée Chalamet acts Dylan. So the cover is Chalamet as Dylan. He was into the film well enough to sing all the songs adopted for the film.

On the “Exotic Grammar” includes three articles: Tomita Lab undresses composer side of Quincy Jones. The interview with Andrea Battistoni tells about Carmina Burana recording with Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra celebrating their collaboration of ten years. The secret of Nik Bärtsch’s activity covering the art, martial arts, Zen, and music is analysed, based on the interview at his tour in Japan with his Ronin Band.

“Pick Up” picks up: Evala: Emerging Site / Disappearing Sight, exhibition at NTT InterCommunication Center (ICC). intoxicate sadly announces the farewell to Kotaro Tawara, who has contributed to the magazine for a quarter century since Musée, the former Intoxicate. He passed away on January 1st. He had been known as a classical records collector, especially of Japanese performers’ recordings. We hope he will rest in peace with his collections. The condolence is contributed by Morihide Katayama, who once hosted the talk event with Akira Ifukube and Tawara at Tower Records Shibuya.
