昨年のソロ・アルバム『極彩色』でメジャーに進出した歌い手の〈れをる〉が、同作にも参加したサウンド・クリイエイターのギガP、映像作家のお菊と共に結成したユニット、REOL。もともと2014年に自主制作で『No title-』を残しているトリオだが、このファースト・アルバムはエレクトロ・ポップの良曲揃いだった自主盤の路線をより攻撃的に展開したマッシヴな一枚となっている。カンナム形式の小悪魔バウンス・ポップ“ギミアブレスタッナウ”を筆頭に、祭囃子ハードスタイルといった雰囲気の“宵々古今”、セツナ・ファニーなフューチャー・ベース“RE:”など、EDM以降のポップネスを体現したギガP印のサウンドは一級品の出来栄え。れをる自身が横並びな社会への反感や恋愛から生じる二律背反な感情をぶつけた詞にも、そんなモヤモヤをキレキレのラップを交えて吹き飛ばす蠱惑的な歌声にも、甘くてエッジーな刺激がたっぷり。メインストリームのダンス・ポップとして楽しみたい一枚だ。

Japanese singer Reol, who made her major debut with the last year’s solo album, "Gokusaishiki," formed an eponymous project with video artist Okiku and GigaP, a sound creator who also took part in the album. The trio was initiated to put out an independent album, "No title-." Picking up where it left off with stellar electro pop tunes, the latest comes out epic, featuring aggressive takes on the style. Post-EDM pop sensibility that bears Giga-P’s hallmarks makes for a top-notch quality; Gangnam Style-esque, sly bouncing pop “Gimme a break, Stop now," nostalgic yet funny future bass "RE:" and "YoiYoi Kokon," a hard take on traditional Japanese festive music. Reol's lyrics reflect her mixed feelings arising from love or the society with a follow-the-crowd mentality while her fascinating vocals alternate with razor-sharp rapping that blows away those cobwebs on the brain. It is all shot through with sweet and edgy inspirations. This album offers mainstream dance-pop to revel in.
