DAISHI DANCE -“DAISHI DANCE Re-EDIT BEST TIMETRAVELER
Interview & text by Tadayuki Sugiyama

The ever-evolving DJ has up-graded his melodious and dramatic qualities to an emotional big crowd pleaser!

DAISHI's new "DAISHI DANCE Re-EDIT BEST TIMETRAVELER" is a re-edit album and his best album to date. The album lists renewed or completely remade versions of his past tracks, with a whole lot of conviction.

He has his eyes set on the shift in the dance music scene over the last couple of years, which is the shift towards Big Room House, in other words, performances at big music festivals. DJs used to perform for a crowd of around thousand people, but that has changed to performing at venues containing more than ten-thousand people, and the tracks have changed accordingly. Meanwhile, DAISHI has also naturally renewed his style time after time, continuing to evolve. And given this trend of the current times, DAISHI has now revived his past tracks; ready to DJ them once again.

"The message, melody and emotions of the originals are still there, I just remade them into something more current. The personalities of the original tracks are there, I just updated them with the best techniques to play them in the dance scene today."

DAISHI used to create the most melodious track, mainly piano-based around the time of his debut. He loved the piano and often used it to convey dramatic elements with his tracks. Today, while he maintains those dramatic elements, now he takes advantage of the wistful synthesizer to create sounds that are more emotional and eloquent, while working more in tandem with contemporary trends. Those are some of the major changes, but as the artist himself states, the nature of his original tracks are intact. They sound as fresh as brand new tracks but the spirit of the original is alive and breathing.

"Although I’ve made alterations and given more changes compared to the usual remixing to some of the tracks, remixing, in general, often changes the original track dramatically. For this album, I wanted to maintain the originality so I chose to phrase it as 're-editing'."

The album includes 15 tracks. Selected tracks meet the current trend, the current dance music format and they also exceed the original after re-editing. There may have been tracks worthy to be selected for this best album, but sticking to the criteria of selection contributed in enhancing the quality of this album. The musicality of "DAISHI DANCE Re-EDIT BEST TIMETRAVELER" is extensive. An original album usually needs a level of consistency, but not this album. The tracks were created liberally by building on the original, making the album diversified than ever. From house-flavored to tribal, trance-style or EDM format, the album will show you how rich this man's talent is. Also, note that the album cover was shot at Gunkanjima the abandoned island off the Nagasaki shore.

"When I chose "timetraveler" for the title, Gunkanjima was the first thing that came to mind."

DAISHI said he was always fascinated by Gunkanjima. Once a busy coalmine island now abandoned, an island where time seems to have stopped and remains untouched for decades, the island matches the title and the concept of this album perfectly, -it's no wonder the artist thought of Gunkanjima. The album cover was photographed by the artist himself, along with some rare footage of Gunkanjima on his new music video shot from a drone, DAISHI's new obsession. Make sure to check out both the album and this new music video.
