メインストリームからも注目されるトッド・テリエ、トッド・ラングレンやセイ・ル・ルとのコラボで話題を集めたリンドストロム……と各々が活躍の場を広げる北欧ノルウェーのニュー・ディスコ・シーンにあって、長いキャリアを総括したような昨年のミックス大作『Paradise Goulash』によってその存在感を不動のものとしつつあるプリンス・トーマス。彼が新たに完成させたのは、なんとCD2枚組（LPは4枚組!）に及ぶエクスペリメンタルなアンビエント巨編だ。自身主宰のフル・パップで提示してきたようなダンス・ミュージックとは一線を画する90年代のIDM／リスニング志向のエレクトロニック・ミュージック――例えばKLFやオーブ、初期ブラック・ドッグといった先達へのオマージュをそっと忍ばせながらも、現行バレアリックやドローンといった〈いま〉のムードをもしっかり内包。単なる懐古趣味に陥ってはおらず、プログレッシヴな音の冒険を試みた野心作と言えよう。やはりこの男、一本筋が通っている。

With last year’s “Paradise Goulash”, an epic mix album that sums up his long career, Prins Thomas firmly established his place in the Norwegian nu-disco scene among a constellation of talents like mainstream rising star Todd Terje, Todd Rundgren, and Lindstrom, whose collaboration with Say Lou Lou has attracted a lot of attention. Now, he comes back with a gigantic, experimental ambient double-pack CD album (its vinyl version accounts for four LPs). Set apart from dance music on his own Full Pupp imprint, its electronic music steers into 90’s IDM and easy listening, faintly paying homage to precursors like The Black Dog in their early days, The KLF, and The Orb. Still, it also captures the current trend of Balearic sound and drone music. Without lapsing into retrospection, this is an ambitious album that explores new avenues in his progressive sounds. True to form, Prins Thomas is a man of musical faith.
