佐藤聰明の代表的電子音楽作品が待望の初CD化。とりわけ1981年男鹿川渓谷にて巨大なスケールで演奏された8チャンネル・テープ音楽作品「エコーズ」のディスク化は驚くべき快挙である。金属音と自身の声という音素材を分解し積み上げ、緻密なまでに再構成されたその響きは、広大な空間の中に"美しい"という概念が浮遊しているかのような音を聴かせてくれる。カップリングにはNHK電子音楽スタジオで制作された《エメラルド・タブレット》を収録。佐藤聰明氏の電子音楽を堪能するには充分すぎる名盤の誕生だ。氏のファンはもちろん、日本電子音楽のファンにも是非聴いてもらいたいと心から思う。

Somei Satoh "Echoes"
The representative electronic music works of Somei Satoh are finally made available in CD for the first time. Particularly notable is the remarkable achievement of putting in to CD, the 8-track cartridge piece "Echoes", performed at a huge scale in 1981 at Ojika river valley in Tochigi Prefecture. Disassembling sound materials such as metallic clanks or his own voice and then building them up again, the vibrancy of the precise reconstruction gives out sounds that can be described as “the sound of the concept ‘heavenly’ floating in vast space”. The piece is coupled with "Emerald Tablet", a piece recorded at the NHK electronic-music studio. Definitely an arrival of a masterpiece more than apt to let listeners appreciate Somei Satoh's electronic music. A creation not only Satoh's fans but also any kind of Japanese electronic music lover should listen to.
