RUMBA ON THE CORNER "Live"
TOKYO ZAWINUL BACH Special "Change Gravity"
Written by Emi Yamanishi

Rumba along with RUMBA ON THE CORNER!!

RUMBA ON THE CORNER (hereafter, ROTC) is a select pack promoted by Taku Moriya who formerly belonged to ska band, DETERMINATIONS, and consists of virtuosos from the likes of 'poetry jazz' band, F.I.B JOURNAL, or instrumental rock band, unkie. This reputed improvisation army seeking to fuse jazz and reggae has just dropped their first ever sound source, "Live". Boldly taking the recordings of their very first live performance with full attendance of the current members, it is actually the substance of the recordings that is truly phenomenal. Skillfully converting any subtle disconnections into perfect spices, their approach of maintaining the primitive ton-weighing heavy groove while loyally adhering to fixed installations, as in, for instance, the mix on "Heavy Seas" adopting Bob Marley & The Wailers' "War", is nothing but admirable, - a pretty promising touch to the future evolvement of the project.

Meanwhile, the electro-jazz unit, TOKYO ZAWINUL BACH of which Masayasu Tzboguchi of ROTC is also an original member, will also be releasing their live recordings made in a customized special orchestration, called "Change Gravity". Spacy electro-jazz making full use of vocoders and Kaoss pads is returned fire by a flood of soulful grooves generated by the heated executions by the younger fellows, including Yosuke Miyajima (also playing in ROTC!), inviting the listeners to a sensuous world of heat and sweet. Both albums will make your feet go jigging, beware!
