ビヨンセ『Lemonade』への参加も話題になるなか、ダブステップ以降の時代を象徴する最大のポップスターが3作目をリリースした。前作に引き続きリック・ルービンが共同プロデュース。噂されていたカニエ・ウェストの起用は実現しなかったものの、ボン・イヴェール、フランク・オーシャンが参加している。鮮烈な展開がオープニングに相応しい“Radio Scilence”で始まり、ごくシンプルなトラックに声を多層的に重ねたり抜いたりしたおもしろさが光る“I Need A Forest Fire”や、堂々たる歌いっぷりが感動的な“My Willing Heart”“The Colour In Anything”、ハイライトの“Modern Soul”など聴きどころは多く、スルメ的に味わいたくなる楽曲が中心。歌とサウンドがこれまで以上にしっくりと馴染んでいて、それがアルバム全体に力強さも生んでいる。ヴォーカリストとしてもトラックメイカーとしても着実な成長ぶりを窺わせ、もはや揺るぎない作風は今後の創作へと向かう地固めをするかのようだ。

Soon after his buzzed appearance on the internet frenzy Beyoncé's “Lemonade”, here arrives the 3rd album from James Blake, the biggest popstar symbolizing the post-dubstep era. Co-produced with Rick Ruben as his previous release, even though the rumored collaboration with Kanye West failed to be realized, the latest piece presents lavish contributions from Bon Iver and Frank Ocean. Opening with “Radio Silence”, the track with the fully starter-qualified sensationally sharp moto,  the album features plenty of noteworthy works such as “I Need A Forest Fire” where multi-layered voices are amusingly laid on-and-off a simple melody, or the two tracks delivering his impressively sonorous vocals, “My Willing Heart” and “The Colour In Anything”, or the highlight-of-the-album tune “Modern Soul”. The more you listen to them, the more you get to relish. His vocals and sounds have come together more than ever, generating a solid verve running throughout the album. As a vocalist and beatmaker, the album demonstrates his sound and steady development, and the already-unshakable artistry is likely to pave the way for upcoming future creations.
