すでにライヴなどで披露されてきた2曲目“ブールヴァード”。フルート・ソロからサックスなどが同じリフをユニゾンで重ねて始まっていくこの曲のウワモノ楽器とリズム・セクションの鮮やかなコンビネーションは、恐らくここ10年ほどの日本のポップ・バンドのなかでも断トツで洗練されていると言えるだろう。フルートやファゴットなどの管楽器メンバーを活かし、モダン・ジャズやトロピカリズモ系のブラジル音楽、あるいは西アフリカのフォークなどなど民族音楽のエレメンツを採り入れながらも、〈ポップス〉という枠組のなかで大衆的であろうとする開かれた目線。それがこの東京の8人組の絶対的な武器だ。2作目にして大傑作の誕生。東京のシーンはますますおもしろくなる。

Second track on the album, "Boulevard" has been played frequently in the past live shows of this Tokyo-based 8-members band (referred-to-by-some-as the Japanese Dirty Projectors). The colourful combination of the rhythm section and the 'upper' non-rhythm instruments of this song which starts by depositing layer over layer of the same riff been played in unison by solo flutes or saxophones, can probably be said to be by far the most sophisticated amongst any other pop bands in the past 10 years. While drawing out the best of the horn section members of the flute or fagot and introducing elements of ethnic music such as modern jazz/Tropicalismo-flavoured Brazilian music or folk music from West Africa, their visions still have the openness to stay populist in the framework of 'pop'. That is precisely the absolute weapon of this band. Still their second, but already a great classic. So much to look forward to in the bustling Tokyo music scene.
