Yufu Terashima  “Fuhehehehehehehe Daisakusen

Interview and article by Peace! Kubota

That serious girl has made a serious major debut!!

With the catch phrase 'Furuki Yoki Jidaikara Kimashita. Majimena Idol, Majimeni Idol (literally: ‘I came from the good old days to be a serious idol acting seriously’)', Yufu Terashima, aka 'Yuffy', who delivers a charming smile, has finally made a major debut!

"From childhood onwards, I have admired Morning Musume (Japanese girl group), especially Natsumi Abe, and became an underground idol when I was in college. But I found it was different from what I dreamed of, what a Morning Musume-like idol is supposed to be. So I started to take various auditions. But around 20 years old, I started thinking that it would be difficult to be an idol anymore. But then, I was asked 'what do you think of becoming an idol' during an audition held by the talent agency of BiS. I signed with the agency and surprisingly became a member of the idol group (LOL)."

寺嶋由芙 ふへへへへへへへ大作戦 ユニバーサル(2015)

She left BiS in the spring of 2013 after about 2 years. After making a solo debut the following year, she said she also became interested in Japanese idols of the 70s and 80s, idols that were much earlier than Morning Musume that she used to admire. The previous 3 singles released one after another which deliver listener-friendly melodies and her natural musical world make you feel much closer to the girl named Yufu Terashima - which is similar to the charm the idols of those times possessed. With a lovely melody and sound that seemingly show respect to 'Seiko Matsuda (one of the  most famous and popular 80s Japanese idols) at around 1981-1982', her major debut single "Fuhehehehehehehe Daisakusen" was again composed/arranged by rionos, a female singer-songwriter of the same age as Yufu who has been writing for her from the past. The lyrics were written by Seiko Omori who has written songs that took their inspiration from Yufu Terashima (without Terashima knowing), including her own single "Kyuru Kyuru".

"I've met Omori several times at talk shows and she seems to like my slightly-distorted personality (LOL). Being a self-proclaimed 'serious idol', I hesitate to reveal my dark-side and toxic characteristics, but Omori's lyrics are exciting with a spicy twist to a pretty song, adding another dimension to the musical world of ‘idol’ Yufu Terashima. I think even those who don't know me yet would enjoy the beautiful imbalance between the sound and lyrics, and I hope my songs will reach the generation who adored Seiko Matsuda as well. Lately, I’ve been wondering how to attract middle-aged men (she says with a smile)."
