Ninja Slayer from Compilation [Nin]

By: Mayumi Tsuchida

Music collection of ‘cyberpunk ninja action’ series!

The setting is in a not-too-distant-future city called Neo-Saitama. An enigmatic ninja soul possesses the main character whose wife and child were killed in a ninja turf war, and now he is seeking vengeance – ‘cyberpunk ninja action’ novel “Ninja Slayer” was authored by Bradley Bond and Philip Ninj@ Morzez, and the Japanese-translated version serialized on Twitter got published. It was also made into an online-animated series called “Ninja Slayer from Animation” this April, which has been making waves with its unconventional plot that is full of distorted and deformed katakana nouns such as ‘suriken (shuriken)’, ‘sarariman (salaryman)’, and ‘Soukaiya (Soukai Syndicate)’, and the ending theme songs which are performed by different artists in each episode. With twelve of those songs and some background music, a compilation album titled “Ninja Slayer from Compilation [Nin]” has been released. The artist lineup has a wide range from up-and-comers to big shots with many overseas fans. Every song is stunning!

VARIOUS ARTISTS ニンジャスレイヤー フロムコンピレイシヨン「忍」 スターチャイルド(2015)

Some of the songs were made just for Ninja Slayer, including a couple of hard rock numbers played in a crazy-but-glamorous manner by Boris, a cute-and-sexy fastcore track by MELT-BANANA, an electro number mixed with a distortion spree by 80KIDZ, an offbeat hip hop tune by skillkills, a funny electropop track by Shinichi Osawa who also composed it by himself, and a fresh garage rock tune by THE PINBALLS. On top of that, both ELECTRIC EEL SHOCK and 8otto made their long-awaited returns, after quite a while, respectively dedicating an alternative rock number with thick and massive riffs and a rhythm oriented groove rock each. Taffy, Sawagi, and 6EYES, who also make this compilation vividly colorful, are the artists you simply shouldn’t miss as well. A simply amazing compilation!
