ZAZEN BOYSのベーシストによるソロ・プロジェクトが始動。1曲にLEO今井が参加していることを除いて、すべての詞／曲と演奏を自身が担ったという純度の高い初作が届けられた。個人練習用のスタジオで夜な夜な制作されたという本作を（いささか強引に）形容するなら、チルウェイヴの流儀とフォークとの融合といったところだろうか。80年代の坂本龍一やブラコンを彷彿とさせるスムースなシンセ・ポップに乗せて、ベッドタウンの風景や記憶が独特の詩情で描かれている。ここにはZAZENのアーバン志向や、あるいは昨今のシティー・ポップ枠で括られる作品に通じる響きがあるが、そうした同時代性よりもむしろ、この男にしか持ち得ない歌心と声そのものの魅力こそが肝だろう。唐突に立ち現れた傑作!

Yoshida Ichiro Untouchable World - "Apanda"
A solo project by the bassist of ZAZEN BOYS has begun. Apart from the opening number which welcomed LEO Imai the singer-songwriter, all the tracks, lyrics and performances are done by the artist himself, making it a highly-pure first album. To describe this album (rather forcefully), which was recorded night after night at the artist’s rehearsal studio, would be a fusion between chill wave and folk music. Using smooth synth pop that reminds you of Ryuichi Sakamoto or black contemporary tunes from the 80’s, these tracks draw images of the suburbs and memories with unique poetic sentiments. Although “Apanda” has qualities of ZAZEN’s urban predilection or what is recently categorized as city pop music, at the core of his charm are his unique musicality and his voice, rather than such contemporaneousness. A masterpiece has arrived out of the blue!
