ローリング・ストーンズのスタジアム公演や、モトリー・クルーの最終ツアーなどで前座に抜擢されたことでも注目を集める4人組のメジャー・デビュー作。英国育ち／LA在住というのも頷ける、グラマラス&キャッチーで、なおかつ過度にウェットではなく、メタルっぽくもないロックンロールを聴かせてくれる。世代的にはオアシスやリバティーンズの影響下にあるようだが、きちんとルーツ探究ができているようで、それこそストーンズからスレイドに至るまでの伝説的なバンドの幻影が随所でちらつく。しかしそこで古臭いリヴァイヴァルに陥ってしまうのではなく、色鮮やかで若々しい躍動感に溢れた仕上がりになっているのは、エアロスミスらを手掛けてきたマーティ・フレデリクセンの手腕によるところが大きいのかもしれない。何はともあれ、フックに富んだ楽曲がとにかく魅力的だし、なかなかキャラの濃い歌いっぷりも良い。1日も早くライヴを観てみたいという気にさせる、要注目の逸材だ。

Having caught wider attention after being chosen as a warm-up act at both the Rolling Stone’s stadium show and Mötley Crüe’s final tour, four piece band The Struts release their debut album from a major record company. Given their British origins and current residency in LA, it makes sense that their sound is not so much excessively passionate metal as glamorous, catchy rock ‘n’ roll. Much as their generation might be influenced by Oasis and The Libertines, they have traced the roots of their lineage, hinting at the legacies of bands like the Rolling Stones and Slade throughout the album. Without lapsing into a worn-out retrospective sound worn-out retrospection, however, the result brims with bright and sprightly dynamism.
