キリンジ脱退後、本人名義での初作は洋楽カヴァー・シリーズ〈Choice〉から登場。一筋縄じゃいかないこだわりが見られるはずだと予想したけど、バリー・マニロウやドーンの超ベタなヒット曲が出てくるなど別の意味でヒネリの効いたラインナップだ。演奏は全編キーボードの伊藤隆博と二人ぼっち。サイケなエコーを施したレオン・ラッセル“This Masquerade”をはじめ、チープなアシッド感を漂わせる楽曲が多めで嬉しい。

Yasuyuki Horigome "“Choice” by Yasuyuki Horigome"
Following the breakaway from Kirinji, a Japanese indie pop duo with his brother Takaki, Yasuyuki Horigome makes his first solo appearance at [Choice],” a series that features covers of non-Japanese songs. Contrary to expectations, the album is not so much his formidable persistence as a somehow unexpected selection of super-familiar hits by the likes of Barry Manilow and Dawn make their names on the lineup. All songs are played solely by him and keyboardist Takahiro Ito. Like a psychedelic-echo-drenched version of “This Masquerade” by Leon Russell, some crudely-arranged acidy mood dominates the album and offers a pleasant listen.
