Takuya Kuroda (黒田卓也） “Zigzagger”
Having stolen the limelight with “Rising Son” for Blue Note Records and more recently got featured by various acts like Jesse Fischer and rapper SALU, internationally in-high-demand musician Takuya Kuroda completes a new album. Though his move to Concord Records tends to be the talk of town, the result of his effort to self-produce the piece deserves more attention. The samurai trumpeter never rests on his laurels, revealing his keen sense and ambition to achieve his own artistic integrity, both of which glow on joyous funky instrumentation throughout the tracks with the likes of Antibalas. A bonus track on the Japanese edition featuring Tokyo-based band cero should create a stir.
