For Their first album in two and a half years, Kafka’s Ibiki, a talented three-piece band comprised of Jim O'Rourke, Japanese singer-songwriter Eiko Ishibashi and Japanese drummer Tatsuhisa Yamamoto, turns to studio production for the first time. True to form, improvisation lays the foundation for the album though O'Rourke’s post production highlights an acoustic hue. There are dance-oriented moments in this 40-odd minute, lengthy trip as Yamamoto punctuates the mix with steady beats. If the ambient-tinged last album showed the band’s tranquil approach, then this one reveals their dynamic side
